2000 Hearts is essentially a ‘giving circle’ – a group of individuals who come together to pool and give away resources (in our case money), educate members about philanthropy and issues in the community. To simplify, it is a form of collective giving.
While still in their infancy in Australia, giving circles are on the rise in the USA and as at 2012 were responsible for distributing $250 Million dollars to not for profit organisations, individuals and charities.
The research indicates that many members of giving circles are experiencing organised philanthropy for the first time and that through the giving circle experience their commitment to giving is increasing.
